WHAT IS JAGUA HENNA
Jagua Henna, also know in the henna community as hennagua or hengua. Jagua Henna is a new form of body art medium which combines henna powder and jagua juice. Henna is a plant from India which stains a reddish dark brown and Jagua is a fruit from South America which stains blue- black. Henna artists have combined these two ingredients to create different shades and colours for temporary tattoo and adornment of the skin. The most common 2 mixtures that you can find are 50% Hennagua (Brown Jagua Henna) and 100% hennagua (Black Jagua Henna).
BROWN JAGUA HENNA VS BLACK JAGUA HENNA
The difference between black jagua henna and brown jagua henna is based on how much Jagua Juice is used in the mixture.
Brown Jagua Henna leaves a dark brown stain, however this leaves the dark brown stain within 24 hours unlike henna which takes 48 hours to create a dark brown stain, therefore this is used as a safer alternative to "emergency henna" as it can give a beautiful result faster. On some this can turn black after 48 hours if the skin reacts very well to the jagua portion of the paste, or if it’s left longer on the palms.
Black Jagua Henna leaves a black ish shade of either brown black or blue black depending on the skintone as well as how long the paste was left on for.
AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS
Please ensure you leave the Black Jagua henna paste on for minimum of 6 hours. The Jagua portion of the mix will stain fast but the henna portion will need time to stain in order to receive the desired stain. If you do not leave the paste on for long enough you may just receive the same blue stain as Jagua Gel.
Remove the Jagua henna by scraping the henna jagua mixture paste off the skin or wash off with water.
Please do not remove the paste when it crumbles off as sometimes the Jagua Henna has still not had enough time to stain the layers of skin. A sugar sealant can be applied on top to ensure that the paste is left on for longer. I personally would not recommend applying a mefix or hypafix tape on top as this can cause the stain to be inconsistent.
Jagua's longevity is the same as henna and lasts up to 1-2 weeks depending on your aftercare and how long the paste is left on for. Please do not sleep with the paste on unless it has been covered as it can easily smudge and transfer so please do be careful and make sure you do not touch any areas of your face or sleep with it on. To avoid this the design must be covered. Mefix and Hypafix tape is not advisable however as a worst case scenario this or some breathable bandages or stockings is what I would recommend to cover the design to prevent transfering.
Please do not use cling film as the heat from wrapping the area in cling film can smudge the design or create a negative reaction amongst those with sensitive skin.
Jagua henna will first appear very faint or sometimes a bright orange stain will appear after removal but please do not worry or panic the paste will start to develop more within 12 hours starting with a faint light faint orange or grey till it matures to a dark grey/blue/black shade for Black Jagua Henna or a cool tone brown for Brown Jagua Henna depending on your skintone. Jagua henna reaches its peak stain development between 24-48 hours after paste removal.
Jagua stain will vary on different people but the longer you leave it on the darker the stain. Another factor which effects the stain result is your skin tone.
Please avoid hot water or any excessive amounts of heat (hot showers, saunas, cling film etc) as this speeds up the oxidation process of jagua therefore causing some negative reactions amongst those with sensitive skin. Cold and warm water should be used.
To ensure your stain lasts long please avoid water/scrubbing the area Jagua henna has been applied to and when you are using water please use gloves (washing dishes) or apply a thin layer of aftercare balm. This will protect your design from washing off easily. Please keep your skin hydrated by drinking lots of water and moisturising as as soon as your skin renews and flakes the design will slowly disappear. If you will be doing any activities which lead to perspiration please apply a deodorant prior to carrying out those activities.
Please note there is a 2% chance that you can develop a reaction to Jagua.
If you do have any questions about your Jagua application and stain please don't hesitate in messaging me and I'd be happy to help.
WHAT CAN AFFECT YOUR STAIN RESULTS
Jagua henna stains differently on everyone as not everyone is the same. On rare occasions some may not receive a stain result at all or a very faint result. There are so many different factors to think of to reach the best possible stain results but here are a few things which can affect your Jagua henna stain result:
Different skin shades can affect the outcome of the shade of Jagua henna. The darker the skintone the darker the Jagua henna stain becomes.
Chemistry and Lifestyle, things such as medication or certain illnesses can affect the stain result. Specific medications or illness have not been scientifically researched enough into to be listed.
Several activities such as sauna, scrubbing/exfoliation, bathing, and swimming can decrease the longevity of the stain.
Stains located in certain regions of the body such as the torso, legs, and arms last longest, however stains on thicker skin such as the feet and hands stain the darkest.
